High Grade Lapis Lazuli Gemstone Art Nouveau Sterling Silver Ring

Here is another high grade Lapis Lazuli Gemstone set in a split shank ring design.
This stone shows a nice sprinkling of gold colored iron pyrite flecks.

The stone used here is a hand cut oval and measures 24 by 18 mm or about 1 by 3/4 inch. 
This ring size is a size 7 1/2 but can be sized from a 6 to a 9.

Lapis lazuli has been mined in Afghanistan for over 6,000 years and it is also found in Siberia and Chile. Lapis Lazuli has been found at both Ancient Egyptian and Sumerian sites, and was traded widely in the then known world from Africa to China.
Lapis lazuli is composed of primarily Lazurite but also contains calcite (white), sodalite (blue), and pyrite (metallic yellow).

Lapis is the Latin for "stone" and lazuli is from the name of a place where lapis lazuli was mined.
Ancient Egypt, Sumeria and Babylon all used lapis lazuli for amulets and ornaments. Powdered lapis was used as eyeshadow by Cleopatra.
