This stone is a purple 11 by 9 mm oval deep purple cabochon set in a simple art nouveau sterling silver pendant design.
The pendant measures 1 1/4 by almost 3/4 inches at its widest.
Amethyst is a type of quartz which is given its purple color from elements of manganese and iron bonded to its molecular structure. Amethyst is said to help induce sleep and dreaming. The word is named after a Greek maiden named “Amethystos” who refused the affections of Dionysus and hence amethyst is said to prevent drunkeness. Amethyst is also the birthstone for February.
