Beautiful Shattuckite Copper Mineral Large Size Hand Cut Free Form Blue Red Gemstone in a One Of Art Nouveau Sterling Silver Pendant Design

This is my newest favorite stone. i have always liked copper minerals but there is something really special about this unique stone.

This stone shows predominant dark blue azurite and red brown cuprite. It shows a dusting of lighter blue chrysocolla anda small patch of green the rare mineral Dioptase which is a hydrous silicate of copper.

I have set it in a "one of" art nouveau design and have added a long engraved leaf on one side.

This is a larger Shattuckite pendant and measures 3 by 1 3/8 inches wide.

The stone itself is hand cut and measures 45 by 19 mm or 1 3/4 by 3/4 inches wide.

Shattuckite is a copper silicate hydroxide mineral and crystallizes in the orthorhombic – dipyramidal crystal system. It usually occurs in a granular massive form and also as fibrous acicular crystals. It is closely allied to plancheite in structure and appearance.

Shattuckite is a relatively rare copper silicate mineral. It was first discovered in 1915 in the copper mines of Bisbee, Arizona, specifically the Shattuck Mine (hence the name). It is a secondary mineral that forms from the alteration of other secondary minerals. At the Shattuck Mine, it forms pseudomorphs after malachite. A pseudomorph is an atom by atom replacement of a crystal structure by another crystal structure, but with little alteration of the outward shape of the original crystal.
