Ammolite is the petrified shell of a fossilized Ammonite from Alberta.
This beautiful ammolite gemstone is hand cut and set in a one of a kind Art Nouveau style pendant and shows a brilliant red metallic flash and from a different angle shows green.
The ammolite stone is a hand cut free form and measures about 3/4 inch each way.
The entire pendant measures about 1 1/2 inch by 1 inch.

The first Ammonite appeared 300 million years ago, in the Devonian age. Their ancestors were an archaic form named Batridtide. There were three broad groups: the goniatites, living at the Devonian and Carboriferous periods, the ceratites of the permian and triassic periods and the ammonites flourishing during the Jurassic and Cretaceous ages. But the number of genera and species considerably decreased from the Cretaceous period onwards. They finally died out 65 million years ago, at the same time as several other animals of the Cretaceous fauna.
